Theory of Change

We are a healing and political home for Indo-Caribbeans who are impacted by gender-based violence and organize them to take action.
We strive to co-create a loving community where everyone feels seen, heard and affirmed. We forge a powerful cultural identity, remembering and reconnecting to our ancestors as a source of strength and resilience.

Methodologies

Transformational Leadership Development:

Through healing work and political education, Indo-Caribbean women, girls and gender expansive people are supported to become whole, resilient, and skilled social justice leaders. We have a community of practice that allows members to continue their growth and build our leadership pipeline.

Community Organizing:

We work to build a progressive and politically powerful Indo-Caribbean community and use that power to win gender justice for the most marginalized.

Art for Social Change:

We use the arts and culture as a community organizing strategy to inspire our community to uproot long-standing patriarchal values and catalyze a collective consciousness shift.

Direct Services:

Through case management, mental health care, and economic assistance, people in our community are supported to be stable and well.

Our Values

Prioritizing those most impacted:

We believe the movement for gender justice should work to center the leadership of those most impacted by gender-based violence — survivors, poor and working class people, trans and gender non-conforming people.

Transformative Justice:

We believe that the criminal legal system is dangerous for communities of color and is an inadequate, and often harmful, recourse for survivors. We commit to supporting survivors to access trauma-informed healing and community accountability practices that address gender-based violence.

Conflict Transformation:

We believe conflict is generative and can lead to healing and growth. We embrace tensions for the breakthroughs they can bring, and utilize non-violent communication and conflict transformation practices.

Cooperative Economics:

We believe in nurturing the values of cooperation, mutualism, reciprocity, and equity to create a world where power and wealth is redistributed so all can thrive and live their most joyful life.

Solidarity:

We believe that a multi-racial and cross-class coalition, where those with more privilege are committed to building deep solidarity with those who have the least privilege, is critical for achieving gender justice.

Cultural Resilience:

As Indo-Caribbean people who have survived multiple migrations and oppressive attempts to strip us of our culture, we support each other to hold onto ancestral wisdom that allows us to remain resilient.

Intersectionality:

As Indo-Caribbean people who have survived multiple migrations and oppressive attempts to strip us of our culture, we support each other to hold onto ancestral wisdom that allows us to remain resilient.

Love & Joy:

We believe in creating a culture and structure that fosters love and joy as pathways to experiencing balance, wellness, and sustainability.
